Shrine Island<\/strong> is a small portion of Angel Island<\/strong> and the current resting place of the Master Emerald<\/strong>. The Master Emerald was originally located in the Chaos Chamber<\/strong> after fourteen Chaos Emeralds<\/strong> were combined during a battle with Mogul the Mammoth<\/strong>. The Master Emerald remained in the chamber under the protection of the Brotherhood of Guardians<\/strong> until an assault by the Eggman Empire<\/strong> left the Chamber decimated. The Emerald would next be protected by the Dark Legion<\/strong> in the Hidden Palace<\/strong> of the Lava Reef<\/strong>. But upon its discovery by the Empire’s agent Hunter<\/strong>, the Emerald would be moved yet again by Locke the Echidna<\/strong> to a second Chaos Chamber. This new Chaos Chamber would be utterly destroyed during a fight between Super Sonic<\/strong> and Knuckles the Echidna<\/strong> during his time as the fourth Enerjak<\/strong>, resulting in the creation of Shrine Island.<\/p>\n

Shrine Island is what remains of the second Chaos Chamber, the ground and rock having been ejected from the mainland when the titans crashed together. Shrine Island is kept afloat like most of Angel Island through the Master Emerald’s unique powers, which seem to extend to the full island even while the individual section is separated. This may have been achieved thanks to the Brotherhood’s long history of maintaining the Island’s relationship with the Chaos Emeralds so as to protect Echidnaopolis<\/strong>. A bridge was constructed by the Chaotix<\/strong> to link Shrine Island to the rest of Angel Island. Grass was also transplanted onto the surface to better mask its origins while Knuckles guards it, helping to achieve some level of separation from the Island’s creation and Locke’s death.<\/p>\n

The altar on which the Master Emerald sits was taken from the Hidden Palace, which seemed to be perfectly constructed to house the super sized\u00a0 emerald in spite of the being created long before the Master Emerald was formed. Knuckles or some other members of the Chaotix can always be found guarding the Master Emerald, his friends helping Knuckles with his ancestral burden. Quick travel between Shrine Island and the Chaotix’s base Haven II<\/strong> is achieved thanks to the Warp Ring<\/strong> technology procured from Dr. Finitevus the Echidna<\/strong>. It allows the Chaotix to visit the Master Emerald instantly not just from any point on Angel Island but most spaces on Mobius<\/strong> itself. Interdimensional or interplanetary travel appears more difficult however, and more testing is being done. While lonely in its current location, Shrine Island represents the latest example of the bond between the Chaos Emeralds and the Guardian of Angel Island.<\/p>\n
