Located on the outskirts of the Great Forest<\/strong>, Freedom HQ is the base of the Knothole Freedom Fighters<\/strong>. The location was originally a limestone cave once discovered by Nathaniel “Nate” Beauregard Morgan<\/strong> during his exile from the Kingdom of Acorn<\/strong>. Due to the cave’s proximity to Knothole Village<\/strong>, the cave was rediscovered by Princess Sally Acorn<\/strong> and her friends: Sonic the Hedgehog<\/strong>, Antoine D’Coolette<\/strong>, and Rotor the Walrus<\/strong>. The cave served as their clubhouse, but upon the disappearance of the team led by Colonel Tig Stripe<\/strong>, the group of friends declared themselves the new Knothole Freedom Fighters and christened the cave as Freedom HQ.<\/p>\n

Freedom HQ grew throughout the First Robotnik War<\/strong>, with the team conducting many of their operations from the base and largely living in bunks carved out from the limestone. However as the team began coordinating with allies such as the Rebel Underground<\/strong> and other Freedom Fighter teams, the base was largely abandoned in favor of working directly out of Knothole. After years of disrepair, Freedom HQ was restored in honor of Sonic’s birthday and officially became the base for the Freedom Fighters again during the Second Robotnik War<\/strong>. The base was briefly destroyed by Snively Robotnik<\/strong>, but the team rebuilt it in short order.<\/p>\n

The current iteration of the base is largely divided into two distinct areas. The upper portion of the base built into a short hill houses the laboratory for communication and technical resources. This section is mostly run by Rotor, Miles “Tails” Prower<\/strong>, or Nicole the Holo-Lynx<\/strong>. The lower portion of the base is the original limestone cave, with a large common room that can be accessed by either a staircase or the classic Great Oak Slide<\/strong>. The bunks for each individual member of the team remain here as well, with additional rooms having been dug out for the team’s growing roster. While the new division of the team into Team Freedom<\/strong> and Team Fighters<\/strong> has seen the base being used infrequently at present, it remains a source of pride and remains a regular gathering point for the team and their friends.<\/p>\n
